Amazon thinks all internet users come from United States
March 2nd, 2008 | by Sajal Kayan |Recently when trying to “Sign Up for Amazon Payments” I had to login and then the form shown to me had only United States as an option. Couldn’t find an explanation for this anywhere. My account as my Thailand address listed. Why does amazon force me to accept that I am from US? Or is it that they seriously believe that people outside United States don’t use the internet?

Perhaps there are other reasons that aren’t nefarious. Does it seem reasonable that a company would want to walk away from money and users? What if there are other significant issues that involve certifying and validating users? I’d suspect that Amazon, as a retailer worldwide, isn’t just leaving money on the table because it thinks all internet users are in the United States.
Amazon, if I recall correctly, is in the US, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and PRChina. It sells in something like 60 countries.
So it’s not that Amazon isn’t aware of the internet. Just looking at their public sales platforms refutes that deduction.
